Thunder Bay police are hoping a video that captured a gas-station robbery in progress on Wednesday morning will lead to an arrest.
Const. Julie Tilbury on Friday released snippets of the video to media of the incident, which showed a suspect entering the Petro-Canada station on Dawson road at approximately 7:30 a.m., pull out a syringe and demand the clerk hand over the money in the till.
The clerk complied and the suspect is then seen exiting the store and heading to the right.
“He did leave with an undisclosed amount of money,” Tilbury said. “The clerk was not injured and so right now Thunder Bay police are releasing some of the video footage from that, in hopes that someone will identify this male.”
The suspect’s face cannot be seen because he had the hood of his winter coat pulled snugly around his face, but Tilbury said she hopes he can be identified through other methods.
“We’re hoping that someone will identity either the gentleman’s mannerisms or the clothing that he’s wearing and will give us a call,” she said.
“The community I think is coming on board. They’re starting to go to the different websites and watching the news to find out what’s going on in the city and are calling the police when they have information.”
Tilbury said police also hope because of the time of the incident, as people were heading to work, means there are witnesses out there who might have seen something.
The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male 5-foot-8 with a medium build, wearing a two-tone grey jacket with a hood, jeans and running shoes.
