THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Police Service says it has now investigated a reported robbery attempt that occurred last week at a North High Street bus stop.

No one was hurt, although the incident left some Lakehead University students shaken.

It occurred on the evening of Sept. 28, but wasn't initially reported to police.

When university officials were told about it, they requested police assistance, and a Thunder Bay Police Service officer visited a student residence at Lakehead this week to get more information.

According to a TBPS news release Thursday, three students were at a bus stop in the 300s block of North High when three young males approached them.

One of them asked "Excuse me, can I have your wallet?"

When the students refused, the males left the scene.

The TBPS says anyone who believes they were the victim of a crime should contact police and file a formal report as soon as possible.

Victims of a crime in progress should immediately call 911.

In other cases, victims wishing to speak with an officer should use the TBPS non-emergency phone number, 684-1299, to learn about their options.

Certain types of crime may also be reported online at thunderbaypolice.ca.

The Lakehead University Student Union has said it's concerned about safety because education students taking an evening course at the nearby Superior Collegiate have now experienced three similar incidents around the same bus stop since the start of the school year.

The university is currently exploring other options for delivering the class.
