Police have released a photo from a single-vehicle crash that took place over the weekend involving a suspected impaired driver.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service hope that the rare step will serve as a reminder to people to drive safe and sober.

Just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning, emergency personnel responded to a serious single motor vehicle collision on Arthur Street.

First responders believed they were dealing with a fatality when they arrived, based on the level of damage to the vehicle.

The car had flipped several times before coming to a stop, trapping a 21-year old Thunder Bay woman in the vehicle.

She was taken to hospital but released a short time later and charged with impaired driving.

During RIDE programs over the weekend, three people were charged with impaired driving and seven people were issued three-day suspensions.

Thunder Bay Police Service spokesman Chris Adams said people who drink and drive are not only endangering themselves, but putting other people at risk.

City Police are reminding people to plan ahead if you are going to be drinking.
