Police resume ground search for missing teen

Thunder Bay Police, along with Lakehead Search and Rescue, continue ground search for missing 14-year-old, Josiah Begg.

THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay Police are resuming a ground search for Josiah Begg, who has been missing since May 6th.

On Tuesday, police and members of Lakehead Search and Rescue, began a ground search in the area around Confederation College.

Josiah, 14, has been missing since Saturday May 6th. On Monday, Police said new surveillance footage of Josiah places his last confirmed location in the Balmoral/William Street area on May 6th at approximately 9 p.m.

Thunder Bay Police conducted a ground search of the Northwood area on May 10th after early witness reports stated Josiah was last seen in the Vale/Limbrick area at approximately 10 p.m.

Volunteer searches organized by Nishnawbe Aski Nation and the Bear Clan have been searching areas throughout the city for the past week. The area around the river at Confederation College was the focus of a search by members of the Canadian Rangers on Monday.

Josiah’s mother, Sunshine Winter, made a plea for her son to come home in a video produced by Thunder Bay Police. The video has more than 77,000 views online.

Police continue to collaborate with volunteer search teams and are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Josiah to contact Thunder Bay Police at 684-1200 or the NAN Search and Command Centre at 630-1982.

Josiah Begg is described as an Aboriginal male, about 5-foot-8 and weighing about 120 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red baseball cap, red hoodie, and grey and white sweat pants.
