THUNDER BAY — City police say the actions of officers saved a man from an opioid overdose.
Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service's community oriented response and engagement unit were patrolling in the area of Andras Court on Tuesday morning when they were made aware of an unconscious person in the building.
The officers found the man, who was not breathing and showing signs consistent with an opioid overdose. The officers began using naloxone and conducting CPR while paramedics were sent to the scene.
Multiple doses of naloxone were administered, and the officers continued lifesaving efforts.
Paramedics arrived and provided additional naloxone. Shortly after that, the man became alert and conscious. He was taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment.
Police said it's believed the man would have died from the overdose had he not received CPR and the naloxone.
