THUNDER BAY -- City police are turning to the public for assistance in an incident that took place in the parking lot near the playground at Boulevard Lake.

Police say a Good Samaritan, possibly wearing a white hat, red jacket and blue pants, came to the aid of a male child at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police have not released any details about the incident, though a Facebook post from a Facebook user said the child was approached by a man in a white work van, who allegedly tried to get the boy into his vehicle before another parent stepped in and took the boy to safety.

The post adds the driver took off from the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

Anyone with information about the Good Samaritan is asked to phone police at 807-684-1200.
