Police are on the hunt for a driver who, in an attempt to get away, tore through city streets on Saturday at speeds up to 145 kilometres an hour.

Thunder Bay OPP on Monday said at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Saturday they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Fassina Street between Valley Street and Dawson Road.

The driver refused to step, allegedly ran several stop signs and ultimately police decided to call off the chase when his driving became too dangerous.

Police located the abandoned vehicle, a 1997 GMC Sierra, a short time later and have issued an arrest warrant for the driver.
