Police seize contraband tobacco in Dryden

An afternoon traffic stop leads to trafficking charges.

DRYDEN, Ont. – Dryden OPP have charged a pair with trafficking contraband tobacco

Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Dec. 15 around 12 p.m. on Highway 17 in Machin Township.

As a result of the traffic stop, officers seized 111 cases of cigarettes with a total estimated value of $444,000.

A 41-year-old of Richmond Hill and a 41-year-old of London have been charged with trafficking in contraband tobacco, possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

Both accused were released on a promise to appear and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 27.
