THUNDER BAY — City police were called to a disturbance involving a weapon on Cumberland Street South that led to a brief standoff situation.

Late Wednesday night, officers arrived and found a woman who appeared injured and quickly learned that the accused had since fled the residence after allegedly assaulting the woman.

Investigators discovered the man was in a nearby apartment, but he refused to communicate with police despite multiple attempts. The TBPS's emergency task unit was brought to the location and made entry to the home just after 3 a.m. on Thursday morning.

A 32-year-old Thunder Bay man was arrested without further incident and is facing 15 charges, including weapons offences and assault.

The accused has been remanded into custody with a future court date.
