Police are asking that anyone with any information about a fatal hit and run come forward, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

On Oct. 2 around 6 a.m. a stolen Chevrolet Colorado ran a stop sign at the intersection of Victoria and Leland Avenues, striking the passenger side of a car. The driver of the truck fled the scene on foot.

Sixty-year-old Josceline Ryan died at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Her husband was also taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

He has since been released and is recovering with family.

Det. Const. Rob Miller said they are still waiting for more tips from anyone with any information on the incident. Any bit of information, no matter how unimportant it might seem, could be helpful.

The victim’s family is holding a memorial service for Ryan open to the public Thursday at the Westfort Prosvita at 2 p.m. Miller said the family has been helpful and understanding throughout their investigation.

“Of course they are frustrated and upset in regards to what had occurred and the fact we don’t have anybody in custody at this time,” he said, adding they’ve interviewed all witnesses they know of and are waiting for DNA results.

The stolen vehicle had been cleaned by the owners before it was taken, which Miller said helps police since now they know that any DNA they find belongs to the driver.

“The airbags did go off in the vehicle … your face is going hit that driver’s side airbag and is obviously going to leave something,” said Miller.

DNA from the airbag and the rest of the vehicle has been sent to the forensic laboratory in Sault Ste. Marie. It could take up to two months to receive the results.

Anyone with information about this incident or the identity of the driver is asked to call Miller at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 623-8477.

Note to readers: Inaccurate information about the location of the memorial was provided to tbnewswatch.com on Wednesday. The story now reflects the memorial’s actual location – Westfort Prosvita.
