Using unmarked vehicles, local police targeted cell phone-using drivers in the city this week.

Thunder Bay Police Service’s traffic unit handed out 25 tickets to chatty drivers who didn’t put their phones down while behind the wheel. Each tickets costs $155.

Police say they heard a number of excuses from drivers during the blitz. One driver asked an officer if a ticket was necessary even though they were only listening on their phone and not talking.

"The phone just rang and I was only telling them I couldn’t talk just now," argued another driver.
