Greenstone OPP release

GREENSTONE, Ont. - Greenstone OPP detachment has received several calls from the public about finding needles (sharps) throughout the community.

The OPP have responded to these calls to properly deal with the needles and prevent anyone from getting hurt.

This is how you can safely get rid of found needles:

•Do not try to put the cap back on the needle.
•Do not snap, break, or bend any part of the needle.
•Pick the needle up carefully. Use tongs, needle-nosed pliers, or a gloved hand.
•Put the needle in a hard plastic container (empty peanut butter jar, pop or water bottle). Seal it tightly and label it "Needle". Do not use a glass container as it could break.

You can also contact the Municipality of Greenstone at 1-807-854-1100 and they will attend and properly dispose of the needles if the needles are found on public property.

The Park and Recreation employees are trained to properly handle sharps and their vehicles will be equipped with sharps containers for proper disposal.
