KAPUSKASING -- Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a man died in Kapuskasing on Saturday.
The Special Investigations Unit says an Ontario Provincial Police officer was investigating a vehicle near the town when he found a man inside with what appeared to be a long-barreled weapon.
Police secured the immediate area and the SIU says officers found that the man had suffered a gunshot wound. He died later in the day.
The SIU describes the case as a "custody death" but the agency gives few other details.
The SIU is automatically called in whenever police are involved in an incident where a person is killed or suffers serious injury.
