THUNDER BAY -- Some members of city council are trying to get a better understanding of what it's like to use a wheelchair during their day-to-day activities.

It's all part of the City of Thunder Bay's efforts to improve accessibility.

Mayor Keith Hobbs and Northwood Coun. Shelby Ch'ng are raising awareness of mobility issues by taking part in the event.

The two municipal politicians were in their wheelchairs throughout the day Monday to see what the challenges are surrounding accessibility.

Ch'ng says she's hoping to get an insight as to what it's like to have a disability.

The city's accessibility committee is hosting a pair of open houses this week, where Hobbs and Ch'ng will discuss their experiences, and hear about other challenges in the community.

The public sessions are being held Tuesday between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Centre, and on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Victoria Inn.
