THUNDER BAY – Workers at the Port Arthur Health Centre are a step closer to striking.

Unifor spokesman Andy Savela, said  talks on Wednesday with a conciliator between the two sides did not result in an new deal and the union has asked for a no board report to be filed, the final step needed to walk off the job in early April.

“The main issues in dispute are lack of permanent positions (job security) as well as wages. With respect to wages the employers offer would still see these workers fall substantially behind both locally and provincially when compared to others who perform this work,” Savela said in a release issued on Wednesday evening on behalf of Unifor Local 229.

Workers have been without a contract since the end of 2017.
