TORONTO – Porter Airlines will remain grounded until at least Nov. 12.
The Canadian company on Tuesday announced it plans to push back its return-to-service date by more than month. Their latest update had indicated Porter might resume flights on Oct. 7.
The airline blamed the continued quarantine period for travellers re-entering Canada, the Atlantic Canada travel bubble and the continued closure of the country’s border with the United States.
“Every one of our markets is affected by the Canadian government’s non-essential travel advisory and border closures,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines, in a release.
“We understand the impact this has on our passengers and our team members, and continue to make decisions based on how the situation evolves.”
The company said it is waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares booked through Nov. 12, including Porter Escapes vacation packages.
Porter, which last year opened an aircraft maintenance base in Thunder Bay, employing 18 people, suspended service operations on March 21 because of COVID-19.
