TORONTO — Porter Airlines has announced another deferral of the resumption of its service because of ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The company's new target date is July 29, one month later than previously scheduled.

Porter's original plan was to get its planes back in the air on June 1, but in late April it set a new objective of June 29.

"We want to see our planes in the sky as soon as possible and are actively working to prepare for our resumption of service," President and CEO Michael DeLuce said Tuesday.

"However, the ongoing uncertainty presented by government travel restrictions, including border closures, is impacting our ability to operate flights," DeLuce added.

He said Porter continues to watch developments closely.

DeLuce said the company is preparing to introduce enhanced health and safety measures when service returns.

Details will be announced closer to the resumption of flights.

Porter operates an aircraft maintenance base as well as a crew base in Thunder Bay.

Air Canada and WestJet have continued to provide service out of Thunder Bay during the pandemic, but passenger volumes have plummeted.
