TORONTO – Porter Airlines has pushed back its plan to resume flying an additional four weeks.

The airline on Monday announced it won’t be back in the air until June 29, 28 days longer than the initial June 1 date.

“Our initial restart date of June 1, was something we believed was reasonable at the time,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines, said in a release.

“While there are many promising signs about how COVID-19 is being contained, it is also clear that border restrictions, government-imposed stay-at-home orders and bans on non-essential travel will remain in place for many regions through much of May and into June.

“This makes it difficult for people to travel, so Porter will continue aligning its approach with the public health response.”

With uncertainty in the air, the airline said it will waive change fees on all fares booked by June 29, noting that travel beginning on that date is now available for purchase.

Porter last flew on March 20.

Over the last two years, Porter has opened both a crew base and an aircraft maintenance base in Thunder Bay.
