THUNDER BAY — A person at St. Bernard elementary school in Thunder Bay has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board made the disclosure late Wednesday afternoon.

It said everyone associated with the impacted class or cohort at the River Street school had already been dismissed from school.

These individuals and anyone else identified by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit will be required to stay home and not return to the school until receiving clearance.

The people considered close contacts include students who rode on the same bus as the person who tested positive.

Anyone not specifically contacted for followup by public health is not considered a close contact, and does not require testing at this time.

The TBDHU issued a letter to the St. Bernard school community saying it is working actively with the school board to manage the situation, and that the investigation will unfold over the next few days.

"Additional measures and actions will be taken as needed," the TBDHU said.

Updates will be provided to the school community in the coming days.
