THUNDER BAY – The Progressive Conservatives are turning to their riding association president to put forward as a potential candidate in Thunder Bay-Atikokan.

Brandon Postuma on Friday announced he would seek the party’s nomination, the decision coming on the eve of the PC’s leadership vote to replace former leader Patrick Brown.

“I am flying to Toronto in the morning to attend the PC leadership convention and felt that I wanted to announce my candidacy today to indicate my support for whoever the new leader is,” the 31-year-old Postuma said in a release.

“I have declared my support publicly for Christine Elliot, but I will work with whoever becomes the new leader. This is all about defeating the Wynne Liberals and we cannot lose sight of that goal.”

Postuma runs the Kakabeka Depot, which provides supplies to local farmers. He’s a graduate of both Lakehead University and the University of Ottawa.

Postuma hopes to unseat long-time Liberal MPP and cabinet minister Bill Mauro for the seat. Neither the Green Party nor the NDP yet have provincial candidates in place.
