THUNDER BAY – A potential case of COVID-19 has been detected at Kingsway Park Public School.

Lakehead Public Schools on Monday said they received word from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and as a result, have dismissed a cohort associated with the possible case, which has yet to be confirmed, as a precaution.

The reasoning given is to prevent potential exposures at the school or on school buses. At the present time there is no indication the virus has spread in the school setting.

Close contacts are being identified, including anyone in the same classroom.

Parents or caregivers of students in the affected cohort will be contacted directly by a public health nurse and given instructions. Teachers, staff and visitors will also be contacted.

Close contacts will be required to stay home and won’t be allowed to return until cleared by public health officials.

Anyone not contacted by public health does not need to be tested at this time.
