SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. -- It's a project that is still in the early stages, but officials in Sioux Lookout are talking optimistically about a potential iron ore plant near the town.
Officials with the Rockex Mining were in Sioux Lookout this week to review the company's Preliminary Economic Assessment for a new iron ore plant.
The results show the project remains viable, and is still on schedule to begin production in four years.
It's a $3.8-billion investment that would bring up to 700 direct jobs to the area.
The plant would be located just 100 kilometers north of Sioux Lookout, and officials say with its location, the project is built to succeed.
Moving forward, Rockex will be conducting a feasibility, and environmental study over the next two years, before project construction can possibly begin in 2018.
