Precious Bundles gets $40K to help families needing clothing (2 Photos)

Clients of Roots to Harvest or Our Kids Count can request a summer clothing bundle.

THUNDER BAY — The Precious Bundles clothing assistance program has received a $40,000 grant from Thunder Bay's COVID-19 Community Relief Fund.

Precious Bundles is a non-profit group of parents helping other parents by recycling quality used children's clothing and essential items.

The grant will be used to assemble bundles for families who currently access the Roots to Harvest or Our Kids Count family food packages and other services.

Clients who fill out a request form at either location will, within two weeks, receive a package including socks, underwear, summer clothing, shoes and other seasonal items.

"It made sense to partner with Roots to Harvest and Our Kids Count, as they already had established programs running...it was a no-brainer to add our services to this as well," said Allyson Veneziano, president of the Precious Bundles board.

Veneziano said COVID-19 is affecting many people in the community, and the board feels there are likely many more families who could use its help but may not know about the organization's services.

Precious Bundles was started in 2005 by two volunteers who had children of their own and understood the costs associated with raising a family.

In 2007 the organization became a registered charity.

The Precious Bundles Clothing Assistance Program COVID-19 Family Essential Item Recovery Project is supported by the federal government's Emergency Community Support Fund, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation and the United Way of Thunder Bay.
