THUNDER BAY - A Thunder Bay man facing charges of aggravated assault and forcible confinement will return to court next month for a one-day preliminary inquiry.

Justin Morrison was charged last November following an incident at the Midtown Inn in the zero-to-100 block of Cumberland Street North on Nov. 5, according to a previous Thunder Bay Police Service media release.

Police were dispatched to the area at approximately 3:40 a.m. following reports of an assault in progress.

When officers responded, they learned several individuals had forcefully entered a room in the hotel and assaulted two occupants with weapons.

The two victims were transported to a medical facility with non-life threatening injuries.

Morrison was arrested nearly a month later. He faces one count of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, disguise with intent, forcible confinement and forcible entry.

Morrison, who is currently in custody, made an in-person appearance in a Thunder Bay courtroom on Friday morning.

Morrison’s lawyer, Johnny de Bakker, told the court on Friday a one-day preliminary inquiry has been set for next month.

A preliminary inquiry is a court hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to a trial.  Evidence heard at these trials, are protected by publication bans.
