Another area First nation community has declared a state of emergency.

The chief of Cat Lake First Nation recently declared the state of emergency to federal and provincial officials due to the widespread use of prescription drugs in that community.

Band officials and health staff say an estimated 70 per cent of youth and adults in the community are now abusing prescription drugs.

The Chief said the drugs are being smuggled into the reserve by people using air travel and by the open winter roads.
