THUNDER BAY - To kick off Pride Week in the city, the group Thunder Pride hosted an opening ceremonies Saturday at Marina Park.
Dozens gathered at the Spirit Garden for a smudging ceremony and drumming to launch Pride Week.
It was a time for listening and sharing stories of resilience and acceptance.
Vice Chair of Thunder Pride Jessica Ross said the city is becoming increasingly more accepting of LGBTQ people.
Earlier this week a pride flag went up at City Hall. Another organizer said in Aboriginal culture, gay people are referred to as being two-spirited.
It’s going to be a week of Pride fun with literary evenings at the art gallery, movie nights, drag shows, and of course the big Pride Parade will be held on Saturday at noon down Red River Road to the Marina.
