THUNDER BAY — Work on the next stage of development at Prince Arthur's Landing has necessitated the closure of a parking lot near the city's marina.

The lot directly in front of the old CN station was blocked off on Canada day, and will remain closed for the balance of the summer.

The closure will allow for the installation of lighting, planting beds, stormwater management features, concrete curbs and asphalt paving.

Market Square Phase 2 will also include "power pedestals" at the four corners of the parking lot, which will facilitate its use by food trucks, bands, or special events.

A city spokesperson said last month that the decorative lighting that's being added will be "something new to the area."

"It's going to look great," project engineer Brian Newman said.

The estimated cost of the improvements is about $500,000.
