Prince Arthur's Landing skating rink will open soon (2 Photos)

City workers are completing flooding to thicken the ice

THUNDER BAY — City residents will soon be able to lace up and use the skating rink at Prince Arthur's Landing.

Crews have been flooding the surface in preparation for reopening the popular waterfront recreation facility.

One spokesperson for the city says it may be ready by Monday, Dec. 7.

Another city representative said Wednesday an announcement will be made within a few days.

However, so far, there's no indication when the change area in the Water Garden Pavilion will be available to the public.

That's being impacted by the need to follow COVID-19 protocols.

There are benches outside where users may put their skates on, but signs will be in place to advise that only one person may be on the bench at a time, except for individuals from the same household.

Crews are just completing the installation of lights at boarded rinks across the city.

Dependent on weather conditions, they will open in the coming weeks.

At supervised rinks, there will be a limit on the number of people allowed in change rooms.
