Kermit the Frog has a rival for Miss Piggy’s affection.
On Monday, dressed as the King of Rock and Roll himself, St. Pius X School principal Gino Nerino gathered his students in the gymnasium, praised them for meeting their Terry Fox fundraising challenge and kissed a piglet on the snout.
Morgan Hughes, 8, and her classmates have been counting down to this day for more than a month, when Nerino accepted the challenge as part of the Terry Fox National School Walk.
It was worth the wait.
“I thought it was really funny because we never get to see principals kiss a pig,” Morgan said.
But more importantly, they raised more than $1,500 for a good cause.
“It feels good to raise money for cancer because I don’t want any more people suffering for it,” she said.
Nerino, who said kissing a pig was not part of his curriculum at teacher’s college, but dirty snout or not, it was for a good cause.
“We raised quite a bit of money with the Terry Fox walk and run, so anything I could do to support that, I was willing to do,” he said.
As a result of meeting their challenge, the school will be entered into a nationwide draw to have Fox’s brother visit the school.
