Propane truck crashes on Highway 588

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at approximately 12:05 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a Propane truck on Highway 588 in Gillies Township.

The driver was east bound on Highway 588 when the steering tire on the front passenger side of the vehicle went onto the soft snow covered shoulder of the highway. 

The vehicle entered the east bound ditch and came to a rest on the passenger side.

There were no injuries reported. The cab of the vehicle sustained extensive damage. The vehicle’s fuel and cargo tank remained intact.    
A tow company, with the assistance of crane, attended to safely remove the vehicle from the ditch.

Highway 588 was closed to traffic for approximately 4.5 hours to allow for safe removal of the vehicle.
