Oliver Paipoonge is receiving $50,000 to protect its drinking water sources.
MPP Bill Mauro (Lib., Thunder Bay-Atikokan) announced Friday morning the Lakehead Source Protection Area in the small municipality would receive the funding through the Source Protection Municipal Implementation Fund.
The fund helps small, rural communities take action to protect drinking water sources.
"Today's announcement of $50,000 to the Lakehead Source Protection Area is a welcome grant from the Ministry of Environment," said Lucy Kloosterhuis, mayor of Oliver Paipoonge, in a media release.
Source protection includes safeguarding rivers, lakes and groundwater that supply drinking water.
