THUNDER BAY - The provincial government will be extending all emergency orders for another 10 days, including restricting the size of gatherings to fewer than five people.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning to extend all emergency orders under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act to June 9.

These orders include restricting social gatherings to five people or less, the closure of outdoor playgrounds and play structures, public swimming pools, and bars and restaurants except for takeout and delivery.

“We are extending these emergency orders to protect the health and safety of all individuals and families as we begin to gradually and safely reopen our province," said Premier Doug Ford in a media release.

"To build on the progress we have made to contain COVID-19, people should continue to follow these simple public health guidelines, practise physical distancing, wear a mask when it is a challenge to physical distance, and wash their hands regularly. If you think you have COVID-19 or may have been exposed to the virus, go to an assessment centre and get tested. Please stay safe."

During the daily media briefing on Tuesday, Minister of Health Christine Elliott, said based on advice by Dr. David Williams, chief medical officer of health, which included concerns about a rise in daily COVID-19 cases in the province, as well as large social gatherings in Toronto on the weekend, restrictions on social gatherings should not be lifted at this time.

A complete list of all emergency orders can be found on the provincial government website.
