Province looks for public input on forestry plan

The Ministry of Natural Resources is now accepting public input into a new forest management plan.

The Ministry of Natural Resources is now accepting public input into a new forest management plan.

An open house is being held at the Victoria Inn to discuss the 2011 Black Spruce Forest plan, which will see the amalgamation of the current Black Sturgeon and Spruce River forests. The plan is being carried out by AbitibiBowater and outlines the proposed wood harvesting areas for the next ten years starting in 2011.

MNR Thunder Bay District Manager Bill Baker says they are addressing a few issues such as access to cottages and areas of remote tourism.

The meeting wraps up Tuesday at 8 p.m. Another meeting will be held in Nipigon Wednesday at the Nipigon Arena from 3 p.m. 8 p.m.
