THUNDER BAY — The Lakehead District School Board is adding another superintendent to its ranks.
The board announced that Heather Harris will become its fifth superintendent, beginning in August.
In the announcement, the board said the addition is a result of special Ministry of Education funding for the board to "advance the delivery of mathematics in schools," with existing superintendent of education AJ Keene leading mathematics and Harris taking on early years education among her responsibilities.
Harris said her main portfolio involves "looking at what the students need and then ensuring that our educator teams, teachers, as well as early childhood educators have what they need to meet those needs."
Harris had been the principal of École Elsie MacGill Public School, after previously holding other administrative leadership roles at McKellar Park Central School and Kakabeka Falls Public School. She also had a previous role as the board's capital planning officer.
Harris said she's always been dedicated and passionate about student success and well-being.
She joins existing superintendents of education Keene, Michelle Probizanski and Jane Lower, as well superintendent of business Kirsti Alaksa.
