THUNDER BAY – A public works open house on Saturday will provide children and adults and up-close look at garbage trucks, snow plows, a tree-truck excavator, a transit bus, the Python 5000 pot-hole filler and a front-end loader.

The event, timed to celebrate National Public Works Week, will also include a barbecue and ice cream, music and kids activities, such as a bouncy castle, face painting and games.

It will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mountdale Public Works Yard at 410 Mountdale Ave.

“Public works professionals work hard to provide and maintain essential public services and are often hidden heroes. From providing clean drinking water, to building roads and bridges, removing snow on roadways or devising emergency management plans, to name a few,” said Kerri Marshall, general manager of Infrastructure and operations, in a release issued on Tuesday by the city.

“Public works professionals help to keep our city running and contribute to our city's quality of life. We look forward to seeing everyone at our second annual open house and showcasing the great work that these professionals do each and every day.”
