Danielle Covello was surprised when she saw city prices were sitting around $1.40 per litre Wednesday.

“But I’m not surprised given the city I live in,” she said. “It’s not good.”

Keith Twinney was also filling up his car Wednesday afternoon and said he doesn’t understand how the prices can jump so high.

“It seems a little unfair especially since the price of oil is so cheap,” he said.
“What can you do about it really?”

Wednesday morning gas prices on the corner of Red River Road and Junot Avenue were around $1.34. By noon they were up to $1.40.

Although he doesn’t use much gas, Bob Pavletic said he wishes he had filled his tank the day before, but he always tops off his tank on Wednesdays whether the price is up or down. It’s also when he picks up his lottery tickets.

I don’t like it; I don’t think anybody would like it,” he said.

Gas prices in Thunder Bay ranged from $1.40 per litre to $1.14.

The average price in Ontario is $1.36 with the highest prices in Marathon and Nipigon at $1.49. The lowest in the province is in Fort William First Nation at THP Variety and Gas Bar at $1.14.

The national average price is $1.33 per litre with Edmonton having the lowest average price at $1.18 and Montreal at the highest with gas at $1.46 per litre.
