Purse snatched, pedestrian struck in grocery store parking lot

THUNDER BAY – City police are investigating a hit-and-run purse snatching that took place on Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1000 block of Dawson Road.

Police, in a release issued on Tuesday, say a woman was loading groceries into her vehicle on Monday just before 5 p.m. when a man driving a white vehicle approached, got out and grabbed her purse. The woman attempted to reach inside the vehicle to recover her belongings, but the driver took off and she fell to the ground.  

The suspect was seen weaving throughout the parking lot, then struck a male pedestrian before exiting and heading south on Strand Avenue.

Both victims suffered non life-threatening injuries, though the male did seek treatment later at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
