MP John Rafferty says he is sure his pitch to take on an advisory role for Northern Ontario and mid-Canada didn’t fall on deaf ears.
The NDP member representing Thunder Bay – Rainy River pitched the idea to become an advisor for Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Northwest region. Rafferty said he’s hopeful that he`ll have that new responsibility, but didn’t expect an answer from recently appointed party leader Tom Mulcair until after the Easter break.
But whatever the new leader decides, Rafferty said he`ll support the decision.
“Mulcair knows where my interests lie, where my skills are and I trust he`ll match me up where I need to be matched up,” Rafferty said.
“I think one of the things we need to make sure is that mid Canada has the leader’s ear. I don’t want Northern Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba forgotten as we move forward. They weren’t under former NDP leader Jack Layton and I`ll do my best to make sure that they aren’t here.”
Rafferty added that Mulcair will also announce his shadow cabinet around the same time.
