THUNDER BAY – The rain has come as predicted, and an updated special weather statement from Environment Canada shows the previously predicted five to eight centimetres of snow will still be arriving this afternoon.
Environment Canada updated its special weather statement just before 5 a.m. Thursday.
That weather statement explains that precipitation is expected to spread into Northwestern Ontario Thursday morning. While that precipitation will start as rain, it is expected to change to snow sometime Thursday morning or afternoon.
While the City of Thunder Bay is expected to see five to eight centimetres, Environment Canada does say some areas could see as much as 10.
Snowfall will continue throughout the night before tapering off from north to south before Friday morning.
The first snowfall of the season is often met with increased motor-vehicle collisions. Motorists are urged to drive with extra caution as accumulating snow will make for slippery conditions on area roadways.
