Rainfall warning issued for city, with up to 75 mm of rain on its way

Rain is expected to affect large swaths of Northwestern Ontario.

THUNDER BAY – The city of Thunder Bay is under a rainfall warning.

According to Environment Canada, residents can expect up to 75 millimetres of rain in some areas, with 50 millimetres expected in the majority of areas.

Heavy rain, with embedded thunderstorms, will roll through the city on Monday night. Much of the rainfall will occur during a three- to six-hour period, but it will depend on location.

Rain is expected to tally off early on Tuesday for area west of Lake Superior and by Tuesday morning in areas further east.

Residents are reminded that heavy downpours can lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Localized flooding in low-lying area is also possible.
