THUNDER BAY – This year’s Shelter House Raise the Rent campaign brought in $22,000.
The 12th annual event calls for local citizens and businesses to raise a minimum of $1,000, which is the average cost of shelter for a month in the city.
The raised funds will go toward the Shelter Houses' funding shortfalls.
Campaign organizer, Takwana Nhau says the many people who come to the shelter for a hot meal come from homes where money can't stretch past the rent.
The Matawa First Nation raised the most money with $4,600. That gave the First Nation the title of Royal Rent Raiser.
