THUNDER BAY – With the nearest fire hydrant about two kilometres away, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews had to use a water shuttle technique to battle a garage fire on Wednesday night at a Raynard Road residence.

The garage suffered heavy water and fire damage.

After the call came in at about 6 p.m., first arriving units reported heavy smoke pouring from the garage and a second alarm was called and a defensive attack mode was initiated.

Five pumpers, one tanker, an aerial ladder and the platoon chief responded to the fire, which resulted in no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
