THUNDER BAY -- More than 100,000 people living in the District of Thunder Bay have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Tuesday announced its latest vaccine numbers, stating that 103,317 individuals have received their first jab, with a record high 8,148 getting one for the week ending on June 12.
As of Saturday, 74 per cent of the adult population and 72 per cent of those 12 and older have received at least one dose. The region's double-dose number continued to climb last week, growing to 18.7 per cent of the 12-plus population.
It was also a record high last week for total vaccinations given out, with about 12,987 shots given, easily surpassing the 10,959 given out three weeks earlier.
The 70-plus population remains the most highly vaccinated age group, with 88.5 per cent receiving one dose. But the over-80 group is the highest double-vaccinated category, with 34.6 per cent of its population having received a single shot.
Every age category, with the exception of those 12 to 17, has hit at least 60 per cent of its population with at least one dose. The youngest category is at 43.7 per cent, up 17.4 percentage points over the previous week.
The 18 to 29 age category continues to perform well, hitting 66.2 per cent with one dose, increasing the gap with 30 to 39 year olds, which are only at 61 per cent, and closing in on the 40 to 49 age group, which was at 67.1 per cent as of this past Saturday.

As a nation, Canada, 74 per cent of the eligible population has now received a single shot and 13.7 per cent are fully vaccinated. In Ontario, it's 73.3 per cent and 15.7 per cent.
Clarification: The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has clarified that 2,682 vaccines counted in this week's total were previously given out in remote communties within the district.
