THUNDER BAY -- This weekend's Outdoor & Recreation Show has attracted the largest number of exhibitors in its 12-year history.

The Chamber of Commerce is hosting more than 120 businesses and services under the Sportsdome over the three-day event.

Event manager Nancy Milani estimated around 15,000 people making an appearance for this year's event.

"I think one of the main reasons it's successful is the time of year we do the show. Everybody has had just about enough of winter and are looking forward to spring and summer," said Milani.

"There's a whole variety of everything to do with outdoor and indoor recreation. There really is something for people of all ages to enjoy."

This year's show features everything from outdoor sports and recreation to adventure, including camping, fishing, hunting, cycling, boating, conservation along with several new interactive activities for kids and adults to try.

The show features a variety of returning interactive displays, main stage presentations, and demos. The popular OFAH kids moose calling contest returns to the main stage, along with the Build a boat contest, the photo contest and the kids and adult strongman competitions.

The Outdoor show is a great opportunity for businesses and community organizations to display what they have to offer.

Ken Mossop, a Regional Maintenance Engineer for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, said the show helps connect them with the community.

"It allows us to share some of the issues about safety and some of the good things we are doing for this part of Ontario such as enhancing 5-1-1," he said.

"We just want to meet with the public and share some of those thoughts on safety precautions."

The show runs until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is $6 for adults, and children 12 and under are free.
