Outsiders are flooding into Attawapiskat a month after the First Nations community called a state of an emergency.

Federal officials are at the small, remote James Bay community trying to figure out what went wrong.

The Red Cross is sending a team this week, loaded with emergency supplies. And interim NDP leader Nycole Turmel is flying in Tuesday. She will be accompanied by that area’s MP Charlie Angus (NDP, Timmins – James Bay).

Angus said five families are living in tents and another 19 are living in un-insulated sheds with no running water, in conditions that are deteriorating rapidly given the onset of cold weather.
