Red Lake-area man charged with animal cruelty

A homeowner reported his chickens and rabbits had been killed.

RED LAKE, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police have charged a Red Lake-area man in connection with the deaths of a number of animals.

OPP on Wednesday released details of the incident which happened at a residence in Balmertown earlier this month.

A homeowner contacted police on Feb. 5 about a break and enter on his property.

Investigating officers learned that someone had killed several chickens and rabbits.

A 23-year-old Balmertown man was arrested and charged with killing animals, cruelty to animals, break and enter, and mischief to property.

He was remanded into custody but later released on an undertaking to appear in court on March 18.
