RED LAKE, Ont. —  There's a state of emergency in Red Lake.

Mayor and council made the official declaration Tuesday in the wake of damage caused by flooding in various parts of the sprawling municipality.

By declaring an emergency, Red Lake may be eligible for some cost recoveries from senior levels of government.

Highway 105, which links the area to Highway 17 at Vermilion Bay, remains closed due to two washouts.

Bearskin Airlines announced that it is providing additional service to both Red Lake and Kenora due to unsafe highway conditions.

It said the extra flights will be offered until May 13.
