THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay will be remove seasonal load restrictions on local roads on Monday, May 23, starting officially at 8 a.m.

The weight restrictions were put in place on March 28 to protect the city's roads from damage until the frost is out of the ground.

The lifting of the restriction means major infrastructure projects like road and sewer work can now go ahead in earnest, said director of engineering and operations Kayla Dixon.

“I think all of our capital projects really look for the half load restriction to be reduced before they start a lot of work,” she said. “We have seen Bruno’s do some paving on arterials, which aren’t protected by half-load restrictions, but now all of our capital work will open up.”

More information, including a reduced loads exemption restrictions map, is available at the city's website or by calling the engineering division at 625-2266.
