THUNDER BAY -- A local research station is still set to close its doors for good at the end of the year.

Members of Thunder Bays Agricultural Research Association gathered for their annual general meeting Thursday, and up for discussion was that in six short weeks, the time will be up for the Thunder Bay Agricultural Research Station if nothing changes.

Officials say the future of the project might lay with a partnership with Lakehead University. President Bruce Forrest said the station has been a catalyst for change within the regional farming community.
Forrest said without the research station people would have to gamble what crops may or may not work in our region and not having it would leave a void .

A phase one application has been submitted to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and another one in the in process of being completed to submit to FedNor in hopes of finding funding to keep them afloat.

For now, it's a waiting game to see what comes first, funding of foreclosure .
