Respiratory outbreak declared at Rainycrest Long Term Care

Residents have been tested for COVID-19 as a precaution, but tests are negative to date

FORT FRANCES, Ont. — An outbreak of respiratory illness has been declared at the Rainycrest Long Term Care Home in Fort Frances.

The outbreak was declared Tuesday by the operator, Riverside Health Care, in conjunction with the Northwestern Health Unit.

As a precautionary measure, all symptomatic individuals have been tested for COVID-19.

Currently, all test results are negative.

In a news release, Riverside said it wanted to remind the public that this is not a COVID-19 outbreak at this time.

Admissions, transfers, discharges and group social activities are cancelled indefinitely.

Visitor restrictions have been enhanced to permit only one visitor or caregiver per resident at a time.

In addition, during the outbreak visitation must take place in the resident's room, not in common space areas.
